TS Education Minister launches women's helpline against cybercrime

HYDERABAD: Education minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy launched helpline numbers for the protection of women against cybercrime during women's protection and cybercrime awareness programme here in Saroornagar on Tuesday.

Sabitha, who participated as the chief guest, said that decennial celebrations of the Telangana state formation day were celebrated on a large scale under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and called upon everyone to participate and make it a grand success.

During his speech, Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar said that Rachakonda was competing equally with Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates in terms of crime control.

He said awareness programmes and short films were being made on cyberstalking to prevent public or online eve-teasing/harassment with the introduction of She Team audio-video vehicles in creating awareness about women's safety and online harassment.

DGP appreciated that the Rachakonda commissionerate was working hard to ensure the safety of girls and women. He said that a command control centre has been set up to expedite crime investigation through which all the CCTV cameras in the state would be linked. He also said that the fear of criminals has increased due to the installation of CCTV cameras across the state and the crime rate has also decreased.

Rachakonda police commissioner D. S. Chauhan said the percentage of cyber crimes had increased due to new technology and devices being available. “It is to be mentioned that technology devices should be used according to different types of needs, but at the same time people should be aware about cybercrimes,” he said.

“Young women are advised to be careful on social media, not to respond to friend requests and messages from strangers and to keep a profile lock. They can call 8712662662 to get immediate help,” Chauhan confirmed.
