It would be the apex centre of the trauma care in the state which would soon have the state of the art facilities.
Rs 16.5 crore has been sanctioned for the centre where 60 percent would be borne by the Centre and the rest the state,” said the nodal officer of trauma care Dr Mohammed Asheel.
Alappuzha Medical College Hospital and Palakkad Government General Hospital have Level-II centres while Ernakulam General Hospital and Kannur hospital will be provided with level-III facility.
Funds from 13th Finance Commission grant and Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) would be used for the purpose.
To set up the centre, a 43-member team from Kerala, comprising doctors and nurses, will participate in a three-day training programme at Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre at AIIMS, New Delhi, from July 27.
The idea is to convert all Medical College Hospitals into Level-II centres, and the project will also have 192 ambulance services (Level-IV) to reach the accident spots in five minutes of a mishap, and it has identified 216 accident prone sites in the state.
Sources at KMCH said Level-I trauma centre would have all super specialities associated with trauma. Victims who require highly specialised medical care would be shifted here.
Level-II centres will have 300-500 bed capacity taking care of severely injured. Level-III would provide stabilisation to the patient, surgically if needed.
