Nellore: Municipal administration department has posted P.V.V.S. Moorthy as commissioner of Nellore municipal corporation and transferred present commissioner Sk. Aleem Basha on Friday.
Known as an efficient officer, Mr Moorthy had worked in the same position at Nellore in the past and he was transferred because of political pressures then.
During his previous tenure, Mr Moorthy was responsible for clearing outstanding dues of the civic body to the extent of Rs 70 crore which included Rs 40 crore due to APSPDCL towards power bills.
He prevailed upon the revenue inspectors to collect property tax dues to put the fund starved civic body on the rails but he was shunted by the TD leaders because he reportedly refused to violate rules to please them.
Incidentally as many as 5 commissioners were transferred during the 5-year-rule of TD mostly because of political reasons.
Similarly former SE of Nellore Civic body Imamuddeen has also been posted to Nellore on Friday. Though he is a native of Nellore city, Imamuddeen himself sought transfer from Nellore corporation in the past unable to bear the pressure to allot works to non-competent contractors.
