NRK’s failing bid to beautify bypass
KOLLAM: Inspired by the beautification of the roads in Kuwait by that government, an NRK has been trying to grow flowering plants along the bypass at at Neeravil here.
But some anti-socials have not liked his idea and have been destroying the plants. Even the authorities have not cared about the matter.
Sunoj Abraham of Rose Dale at Mathilil here has planted several flowering plants alongside the road in the last one year on the model of the roads in his workplace in Kuwait.
“I had started planting even before the inauguration of the bypass. But the plants were destroyed by some people at least four times since then. Recently, I had placed a pot in antique style, but it was destroyed on Thursday night,” he told DC.
The Kuwait government beautifies the roads and the public preserve the plants.
“The government there imports soil to grow the plants, but here we just need to plant them in the soil, as we have a favourable climate and plenty of water to irrigate them. However, nobody cares for our surroundings,” he lamented.
Yet, Sunoj won’t be deterred. “I will not give up and will keep on planting until the flowers adorn the Kollam bypass,” he added.
