AP to go ahead with recruitment of assistant professors in varsities
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government would soon go ahead with recruitment of assistant professors in all the 14 universities in the state as it recently got the clearance for this from the AP High Court.
The state government was waiting to start the recruitment process that was pending for long. Job aspirants had filed several petitions in the HC, citing the anomalies involved in the screening test conducted by the APPSC during the previous Telugu Desam term (2014-19). They had also complained of irregularities like not following the roster of reservation while the universities notified the vacancies.
However, with the HC giving its green signal for taking up the recruitment mainly of assistant professors, the state government has started the process.
However, the state government is yet to come up with its plan on recruitment, like the conduct of a state-wide screening test again by involving the APPSC for selection of the meritorious candidates for assistant professor posts.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to hold a meeting with officials and other stakeholder departments to review the situation.
Several assistant professors working on contract basis in these universities have appealed to the state government to resolve their grievances before issuing a notification for recruitment, so as to avoid legal complications again.
Their contention is that though the state government issued GO 110 fixing their starting wages at Rs 40,000 for PhD-holders and Rs 35,000 for non-PhD holders, only three universities were implementing it while the rest ignored it. They also said the contract faculty working in degree, junior colleges and polytechnics and also those enrolled for PhD programme were getting more pay/stipend than them, despite them having high academic qualifications and experience.
