Kozhikode: Sunday was calm and peaceful for Kozhikode barring isolated incidents. As the water receded, some camps were closed, but new ones opened.
The alert is continuing in the wake of incessant rain prediction till August 15.
According to the district administration, there are 1030 people in 11 relief camps in the district as on Sunday - five in Thamarassery taluk, three in Vadakara, two in Kozhikode and one in Koyilandy.
A camp at GLPS Manjakadavu in Koodaranji has been closed, and the 28 families returned home. In Vadakara, the camp at Moolavattom Anganwadi in Kavilumpara closed, and six families returned.But another new camp has been opened in Maruthonkara village.
Water entered into six houses at Vadakkumbad Pannipaadam in Kadalundi and families shifted to a relief camp.
A foundation of a house went down at Karingallayi in Kadalundi. Wells at a few homes in Madavoor got damaged. Kayakody and Chekyad reported minor rain-related incidents.
District-in-charge minister T.P. Ramakrishnan visited the camp at Manalvayal AKTM LP School at Kannappankund in Puthuppady early Sunday morning.
He praised the help for the flood-hit people from every walk of life. "People are extending help like the calamity has affected their own relatives, and it is a model to emulate. LSG institutions should take the initiative in clearing off the debris and repair at the partially hit households as people would be keen to return," he said.
He said all camps were functioning satisfactorily after visiting the one at St Joseph's UP School at Mailallampara.
District panchayat president Babu Parassery also visited camps.
