Bengaluru: Measures to tackle indiscriminate disposal of animal waste on Bakrid
Bengaluru: Every year after Bakrid festival, it is a common sight to find stray dogs dragging animal waste into the streets. But this year, the BBMP has made plans for effective disposal of animal waste.
When DC contacted Mr. Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Health, on the measures taken by the BBMP to prevent the indiscriminate disposal of animal waste , he said "We have identified areas where a larger number of the minority community reside. In all these areas, there will be vehicles which will be collecting animal waste."
Many of the minorities reside in BBMP East zone. The areas include Tilak Nagar, Bismillah Nagar, JJ Nagar, BTM Layout and Jayanagar 9th block.
"The smaller vehicles will dump the collected waste into trucks. These trucks will head towards animal waste-dumping yards located at Kogilubande and Singapura for safe disposal", Mr Sarfaraz added.
When asked about the awareness programmes undertaken by the BBMP, Mr Sarfaraz said "We roped in the Resident Welfare Associations to create awareness among the minority community. We want them to hand over the animal waste to the mobile vehicles and not to dispose of it unscientifically on the streets."
He also said that volunteers have been reaching out to various mosques to communicate BBMP's plan of collecting animal wastes. Animal waste will be collected in drums or in plastic sheets and the waste will be properly covered before they are dumped in the landfills.
