EC officials review in Telangana election readiness
Hyderabad: Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Mr. Umesh Sinha on Wednesday said that preparedness for the Assembly elections in Telangana State was going along the "right lines".
A team of officials from the Election Commission of India led by Mr Sinha concluded its' two-day trip to Telangana on Wednesday to assess the preparedness of the State Government administration for holding early elections of Telangana Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Sinha said the team had multi disciplinary discussions with the State administration and political parties and would submit a report immediately to the EC on the preparedness for the polls.
"The schedule for Assembly elections is the call which the Election Commission will take. As I told you that we have assessed the basic preparation and that is all along the right lines", Mr Sinha said while addressing a press conference.
"The Election Commission sent this team to assess the level of the preparedness. So at this moment it is not possible to give any comments. We will give our inputs to the Election Commission and after that EC will take a call. We will submit our report instantly. After we go back we will give our report," he said.
Replying to a query on the voters of the four mandals in Bhadrachalam which were merged into Andhra Pradesh, he said, "The issue would be brought to the notice of the EC."
He said the team had given certain guidelines and parameters as per the EC to the district officials with regard to poll preparedness.
The EC team had a six-hour long meeting with Chief Secretary SK Joshi, DGP Mahender Reddy, collectors, SPs and IGs of 31 districts. The team inquired about the level of poll preparedness in each of these districts.
