Vizag Boy dies replicating cartoon game

Visakhapatnam: Dimple Surya, a student of class III, died at his home in Kasturi Nagar in Kailasapuram area of Visakhapatnam on Monday while playing.

Surya had a holiday as his school had been closed owing to the bundh called by Telugu Desam protesting against the arrest of TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. While his mother Sri Dhanalakshmi had been busy in the kitchen, he watched a cartoon film on the TV.

He wanted to replicate the cartoon’s hero. He tied his mother’s dupatta to an electric pipe above the window. He tied the other end of the dupatta around his neck. He then tried to swing like the cartoon film hero. He broke his neck and died.

Surya's father Srinivas told Deccan Chronicle that his son, a very hyperactive boy, always played one or the other dangerous games he watched in the many cartoons. But his mother kept him under control.

“But this time, we were not fortunate enough. Neighbours saw the boy hanging stiffly and they informed his mother. They took Surya to the local hospital. Doctors declared he had died,” Srinivas stated.

Police have registered a case of suspicious death, though the parents say it is an accidental death.

Police shifted the boy’s body to KGH for post-mortem. They later handed over the boy to his parents for his last rites.
