Hyderabad: Once again, anomalies in the records maintained by the irrigation and revenue departments and the GHMC on city lakes and nalas came to light.
During a survey after the Pedda Cheruvu in Ramanthapur overflow following the recent rains, 135 structures were identified as falling under the full tank level.
But, the records with the revenue department and the GHMC stated that the structures were constructed on patta lands.
Officials on Thursday held a joint survey to identify the illegal structures near the tank.P. Venkata Praseeda, deputy executive engineer of irrigation department, said that the joint survey identified 135 structures as encroachments at Pedda Cheruvu. “The revenue department and the GHMC have to verify the records along with the building permissions,” he said.
An official from the GHMC said that the department would take time to verify the records and would decide the future course of action later.
“The Telangana state government should take a decision on shifting the illegal buildings by providing them compensations to end the issue permanently,” the official said.
Meanwhile, GHMC staff have been pumping out water from the tank to protect the surrounding colonies. Though they are using 15 motor pumps, the situation has not yet brought back to normalcy. Meanwhile, fishermen have come up against the pumping of water.
Mr Ditti Mallaiah, president of the State Fishermen Association, said that they would approach the court to protect the tank.
