Hyderabad: Seniors too made to wait for hours at banks
HYDERABAD: The hours of waiting in queues at banks is taking a toll on the health of pensioners and senior citizens. They requested authorities to start separate queues for them. Mr Shanker Rao, 74, a Central government pensioner, waited at SBI, Secunderabad for more than two-and-a-half hours on Saturday to exchange old notes.
“I withdrew my salary two days before the announcement by the Prime Minister. All of the money was in Rs 1,000 notes. Now I am forced to exchange them. I have pain in my back due to standing for so long,” he said. Ms V. Bharathi, 71, a retired headmistress of a state school, was allowed to enter the bank when this reporter made a request in view of her age. Bank Employees Fede-ration of India general secretary, P. Venkata-ramaiah said he would bring the issue to the notice of higher-ups.
