Chennai: Whenever its his birthday, the fans of 'Superstar' Rajinikanth go berserk plastering Chennai and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu with multi-coloured posters hailing him as the hope of TN and the future Chief Minister. Tuesday, Dec. 12, which happens to be Rajini's 68th birthday was no exception.
Scores of the 'superstar' fans descended upon his residence in Poes Garden here in the hope of meeting and greeting him when the veteran actor turned 68 today.
The actor was, however, not in town, according to his publicist. The fans have leant that he was not in town and was busy with “Kala-Karikalan,” — a sequel to his 2016 hit “Kabali.” Despite this, his ardent fans celebrated his birthday by conducting prayers.
In his twitter message, actor Amitabh Bachchan whose 11 films in which Rajinikanth acted in an Amitabh Bachchan remake including Shankar Salim Simon (Amar Akbar Anthony) and Billa (Don), termed Rajinkanth a “friend” and a “large-hearted colossus.”
“To my dear friend, colleague and a most humble and large hearted Colossus !! Birthday greetings,” he tweeted with a photo of himself with Rajini.
“In Chennai, my first shoot of a Hindi film was in 1985 and it was called Wafadar. It has been 32 years now. The lead actor is a phenomenon. But the man is the same — humble, kind, simple and down to earth. Happy birthday,” Anupam Kher had tweeted.
“It is 12th morning here in US. Many more happy returns of the day brother Rajini. Am here for VR2 final mix. All the best in everything you want to do. Yours Kamal,” Kamal Haasan tweeted.
Besides a host of film personalities including Akshay Kumar, Radhika, Kajal Aggarwal and Vikram Prabhu, 'master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar and political leaders: DMK working president M. K. Stalin, MDMK chief Vaiko, BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, TNCC chief Su Thirunavukkarasar were among those who wished the superstar.
There was expectation that the actor who had hinted of taking the political plunge, would announce his political plans on his birthday. But that was not to be.
