The Congress legislator from the constituency, R.K.R. Anantharaman, came out with a dream project to install closed circuit television cameras at important places in the constituency. In the first phase, the cameras would be installed in busy public spots including the tourist destinations and the work has executed in Thavalakuppam junction has 6 cameras installed.
Eight cameras would be installed in Chunnambar boat house, one of the important tourist destinations in the state, by next week.
“Nonankuppam Higher secondary school, Purankuppam areas also will be under surveillance soon. We are planning to install CCTV cameras in all important junctions by July this year.” Anatharaman told Deccan Chronicle.
The mission has been started to curb incidents of crime and to ensure safety of people including tourists. The CCTV cameras would be connected to all the police stations in the constituency
“Manaveli constituency has many important tourist places, including the Chunnambar boat house and a number of tourists from the neighbouring states are coming here on a daily basis. To ensure the safety of the tourists is our prime concern” he said.
About Rs. 5 lakh would be needed in order to complete the mission and the amount has been raised with the help of like-minded people, non-governmental organisations and his own fund, said Mr Anantharaman.
The entire Manaveli constituency will be under CCTV surveillance by 2019 including all villages. We have already started working on it, the legislator added.
