Khammam: A person died and four were injured when a car being followed by relatives of runaway couple hit a tree at Gopalapuram near Khammam on Saturday. The newly-wed couple escaped with minor injuries, while the driver died instantaneously.
According to police, Suman and Sohain, an SCCL employee at Yellandu, were in love. But Sohain’s parents were against their marriage. On Friday, the two got married at the Venkateswara temple at Anatharam in Bayyaram Mandal. Sohain’s family reached the place and heated arguments followed.
Suman’s friends arranged a car to take the couple to Hyderabad. Sohain’s parents and relatives decided to follow them. In a film-style chase, Suman’s friends tried to confuse’ the relatives and diverted the car to Kothagudem and took the Khammam route.
But Sohain’s parents continued the chase and the driver of the first car lost control and hit a tree. Driver K. Raju died while Suman’s friend Tarun was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad.
