LEAFS Launches Innovative Pilot Project to Resolve Land Disputes in Village

Hyderabad: An agricultural NGO, Legal Empowerment and Assistance for Farmers Society (LEAFS), launched a pilot project on Sunday to creating villages where all land disputes are resolved, on Sankranti.

The programme was launched in Yacharam mandal of Rangareddy district in the presence of CCLA project director (CMRO) V. Lacchi Reddy and Dharani committee member Kodanda Reddy.

Kodanda Reddy land laws expert Sunil Kumar released a form to list the problems related to land disputes.

Sunil Kumar said the initiative was akin to farmers getting soil tested, and diagnostic tests on people. “Verifying if land has legal issues is essential. Such an exercise is necessary to guard lands against future disputes. The applicant will get to know how to resolve disputes, whom to approach.”

The programme will cover 21 villages and the organisation will submit a report to the government on its findings. It offers legal solutions on the phone to farmers who call them between 6 pm and 7 pm on Saturdays.

The Congress government was studying problems with the Dharani portal, and changes will be made accordingly, Kodanda Reddy said.

Those who participated include LEAFS vice-president G. Jeevan Reddy, lawyers Mallesham, Praveen, Srikanth and adviser Karunakar Reddy.
