Beware traffic violators of Kozhikode

Citizens to act against traffic offences.

KOZHIKODE: The traffic violators in Kozhikode cannot go scot-free hereafter. They will be under the watchful eyes of the citizens who will join hands with the city police to catch the offenders.

The city police will launch a project 'CC- Vigil' (Calicut Citizen- Vigil) from Thursday to enlist the cooperation of the people to check traffic violations and accidents.

The citizens can click the pictures of the traffic violations and send them to 'CC- Vigil' WhatsApp number (6238488686).

They can also send traffic-related suggestions to the police on the same WhatsApp number.

City Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Gurudin said that the people can help the police make the city safe and law-abiding.

"They just need to click the picture of traffic violation, whether jumping the signal, helmet-less travel or anything related to road safety. Whenever you come across any offences, send that picture to our WhatsApp number. The pictures must be accompanied by the date, time and location of the incident, without which action will be difficult," he said.

This will help in saving people's lives and creating a positive impact on the city traffic, the Police Commissioner added.

"Those participating in the initiative will be recognised. We will identify three people who send the best click or suggestion every week, and present them a Good Samaritan certificate. Every suggestion will be addressed and action will be taken against the violations," the Police Commissioner said.

The informer's identity will be kept confidential and he or she will not be disturbed in anyway. They will have the right to ask the city police about the action on the information sent to the police, Police Commissioner added.
