TD fails to fulfil promises: Yeluri
Ongole: PCC spokesperson Yeluri Ramachandra Reddy on Wednesday came down heavily on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu accusing him of not fulfilling his promise to complete the first phase of Pula Subbaiah Veligonda project by Sankranti this year.
Speaking to media persons at Ongole, Mr Reddy threatened to resort to an indefinite fast if special attention was not paid to the project. Mr Reddy said he would be organising a 2K-Run at Markapuram on February 17 as part of his agitation for Veligo-nda project. He appealed to the people living in the vicinity of Veligonda to join the Run to send a strong message to the state government.
Reminding that foundation stone was laid for the project on March 5, 1996 by Mr Naidu, He alleged that not even a single drop of water was supplied from the project even after 22 years.
Mr Reddy said many people are migrating from Markapuram and other towns and villages falling under Veligonda project area for livelihood due to lack of water. Referring to foundation stone laid by late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy once again on October 27, 2004, he said some canals have been completed besides works at Kakarla, Gottipadiya and Sunkesula thereafter.
Claiming credit for Congress for completion of 60 per cent of the works during its rule, Mr Reddy alleged that there was hardly any progress despite 12 visits by Mr Naidu after he came to power. “Though he assured to complete the project within two years after taking charge, he failed to keep up his word so he has no right to to visit Prakasam” Mr Reddy complained.
He said that the project would ensure drinking water for 20 lakh people and irrigation facility for 32 mandals in Prakasam, Nellore and Kadapa districts once completed.
