Two tigresses suspected in human killings captured in Mysuru, Madikeri

The captured tigresses have been shifted to Chamundeshwari Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre

BENGALURU: Two tigers suspected to have been involved in human killings were captured by forest personnel on Tuesday. One was captured in Mysuru and another in Madikeri and both were captured on the boundary of Nagarahole National Park, a tiger reserve spread across Mysuru and Madikeri districts. The captured tigresses have been shifted to Chamundeshwari Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Koorgalli near Mysuru city.

In Madikeri, a tigress which is suspected to have mauled two persons at K. Bdaga village on the periphery of Nagarahole National Park in Kutta region of Ponnampet, Madikeri was captured after tranquilisation by wildlife veterinarians on Tuesday.

The caught tigress is aged about 13 years and after its capture the wild cat has been shifted to Chamundeshwari Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Koorgalli near Mysuru city. Chetan (12) and Raju (75) were victims of the wild cat attack on Sunday evening and on Monday morning leading to panic among the residents of Kutta and adjoining areas in Ponnampet.

Forest officials told Deccan Chronicle that the tigress was caught during a combing operation conducted by the forest personnel and they came across the wild cat in a bush. Upon noticing the personnel, the tigress made an escape and personnel went behind the animal tracking it.

Vets mounted tamed elephants darted the tigress before it was secured near Nanachi village on the border of the Nagarahole National Park and shifted to the Rehabilitation Centre. “The tigress has external injuries,” said a source who took part in its capture.

In Mysuru, a tigress suspected to have mauled a tribal boy Manju about 10-days behind at Balle, a tribal settlement in D.B. Kuppe range of H.D. Kote in Mysuru district was captured by forest personnel. The tigress caught in D.B. Kuppe range is about 12 years and its capture was near Balle of the same range, said officials.
