Challenge to make Kerala litter-free

The campaign also plans to make the citizens more responsible and the residents will also be given the chance to clean up the dumps.

Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the upcoming 'Litter- Free Premises Campaign' announced by the Governor in his address to the Assembly, the Suchitwa Mission has launched #Litterfreechallenge in the social media to ensure the participation of the public. It urges the citizen to click and post the picture of places prone to dumping close to their home or office on the webpage on the Suchitwa Mission site.

"The Suchitwa Mission will inform the local authorities concerned and make sure the place is cleaned up and beautified to put an end to littering. Pictures would be uploaded before and after littering so that more citizens will come forward and take part in the contest. We will be shortlisting them and the best photo will be given a reward," said an official.

Suchitwa Mission is planning to hold a meeting with the LSGD to ensure the participation of local bodies ahead of the official launch of the campaign. "The campaign aims at creating an impact on the community health and aesthetics of the state. This will help make the premises of houses, institutions and public amenities litter-free," the official added.

The campaign also plans to make the citizens more responsible and the residents will also be given the chance to clean up the dumps. "The aim is to make segregation possible and promote decentralised waste management," said the official.
