More land cultivated in Warangal

Mission Kakatiya works not only increased the water holding capacity of the tank, it also increased the ground water level.

WARANGAL: One year ago, Barla Cheruvu in Venkatapur village in Thorrur mandal used to hold water just about enough for farmers dependent on it to cultivate their crops. Depending on the quantity it is holding, farmers used to decide how much of their land they would cultivate.

But farmers say, the scenario has changed this year after the tank was revived under Mission Kakatiya. “The tank is holding more water than it used to before. We were able to cultivate two crops this year. Mission Kakatiya works not only increased the water holding capacity of the tank, it also increased the ground water level. We were able to use water both from the tank and the bore motor,” said a farmer Jatohu Deva. Nearly 50 acres of land was cultivated under this tank this year.

In Kesamudram mandal also farmers say they were able to cultivate more land after Mission Kakatiya works were completed. In Katlapalli village, the Pedda cheruvu which was revived under Mission Kakatiya was able to provide irrigation water to about 400 acres of land.
