Nellore: Cops to revisit Ayesha Meera murder case
Nellore: Director-General of Police Sambasiva Rao on Thursday hinted at the possibility of a reinvestigation into the Ayesha Meera murder case, if there are no legal tangles. He was answering a question on the recent High Court acquittal of Mr Satyam Babu in the murder case, after years in prison. The DGP was in Nellore on Thursday to launch development programmes.
He said the Ayesha’s parents were unhappy at the way the investigation had been carried out and the police naming Mr Satyam Babu as their chief suspect. He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had reviewed the proposal of reopening the case but the legal position must be ascertained before proceeding further. After inaugurating the new command and control centre, he dwelt at length on the use of technology to contain crime and speed up investigation. There is already noticeable progress in detecting crimes with the available technology. Mr Rao congratulated Nellore SP Vishal Gunni for the command and control initiative which is on par with the one in Vijayawada. The centre gets inputs from 400 CCTV cameras installed in the city.
He encouraged digitalisation of operations with funds being provided by the state government and the Centre. After opening a citizen-centric reception centre at the 5th Town police station, Mr Rao advised police staff, especially those manning reception, to greet and address complainants with respect.
