AP celebrates Ambedkar's 132nd birth anniversary

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led the state in paying their tributes to Father of Indian Constitution B.R. Ambedkar on occasion of his 132nd birth anniversary on Friday.

At a function organised at Raj Bhavan, the Governor described Ambedkar as a great son of India who fought for equal rights to all and emancipation of downtrodden in the society.

Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister said, “Walking in the footsteps of that great man, we have taken historic steps in poverty eradication and social justice. Tributes to Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.”

At YSRC office, municipal administration minister Audimulapu Suresh underlined that Jagan Mohan Reddy is following in the footsteps of Ambedkar and taking historic decisions, which are socially, politically and economically benefiting the downtrodden communities.

Social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna pointed out that Ambedkar had faced severe caste discrimination, but worked tirelessly to eradicate untouchability in the society at that time.

MLC Lella Appi Reddy said the Constitution written by Ambedkar is the reason for existence of the democratic system in the country.

On the occasion, a book on the life history of Ambedkar written by social worker P. Vara Prasad was released.

At Telugu Desam state party office, TD AP president Kinjarapu Atchannaidu paid floral tributes to Ambedkar. Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders recalled Ambedkar’s services at a function held in Gudivada.

BJP state president Somu Veerraj paid homage to Ambedkar by gargling his statue near Tummalapalli Kalakshetram.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Ambedkar served as a guide to the nation and his ideas for integrity of the people in the nation were indispensable and added that the Dalit icon wanted all people to derive the benefits of welfare schemes initiated by the government of the day. He said that their party was indebted to the ideas of the Dalit icon all the time.

Earlier, the BJP leaders and activists took out a rally from their state party office to Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to mark the occasion.
AP Congress Committee president Gidugu Rudra Raju and other leaders celebrated Ambedkar’s birthday at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada.
Similarly, all political parties and organisations paid tributes to Ambedkar at their offices in all 26 districts of the state.
