Defence industries to come up in Salem: Tamil Nadu CM
Salem: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has said efforts are on to establish defence ancillary industry in Salem and the move will strengthen the defence ecosystem in the country besides facilitating employment in a big way.
Speaking at a function got up here on Sunday to launch massive infrastructure projects, the Chief Minister said the move would also augur well for the defence corridor to be created in Tamil Nadu (with Chennai, Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli as major nodes).
The corridor project was recently announced by the Centre and it will build on the existing defence ecosystem in the form of Ordnance Factory Boards, vendors working with defence Public Sector Undertakings and other allied industries.
Referring to the major infrastructural project viz. the Chennai–Salem green express corridor, the Chief Minister said this would aid in hassle-free transportation of consignment besides reduce accidents. The Centre and the Tamil Nadu government have proposed to connect the two cities at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
