Heat wave in AP from today, red alert for 127 mandals
Visakhapatnam: The weatherman has warned of severe heat waves for three days in Andhra Pradesh from Monday while the State Disaster Management Authority sounded a red alert for 127 mandals.
On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature of 45 degree Celsius was recorded at Jangamaheswarapuram in coastal Palnadu district. The highest temperature in the 42- 43 degrees C range for the past few days showed a two- to three-notch jump to over 45. Over 12 locations in coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Rayalaseema region recorded 40 to 43 degree C. The fluctuations in the humidity levels caused discomfort to the people in the coastal areas.
IMD scientist in Amaravati, S Karunasagar, said heat wave was evident in Jangamaheswarapuram in coastal Palnadu district, which recorded the season’s highest temperature of 45 degree C with 54 per cent humidity. Bapatla recorded 43 with a record low humidity of 27 per cent while Machilipatnam registered 41.8 degree C with a 54 per cent humidity. Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district recorded 35 degrees C, the lowest in the state, with 84 per cent humidity.
“AP will witness severe heat wave conditions for the next three days as dry winds are blowing from the north westerly direction,’’ Karunasagar said.
In a release on Sunday, the state disaster management authority said the temperature might go up to 47 degree C in Krishna, West Godavari, ASR , Guntur and Rayalaseema. Jaggayyapeta in NTR district recorded 44.8 degree C and Dwarakatirumala 44.7 degrees on Sunday.
A ‘severe heat wave condition’ warning was issued for two mandals in ASR, eight mandals in Anakapalli, nine in Bapatla, 17 in East Godavari, 3 in Eluru, 13 in Guntur, 18 mandals in Kakinada, 15 in Konaseema, 18 in Krishna, eight mandals in NTR, two in Palnadu, one in Paavathipuram Manyam and three mandals in Visakhapatnam district.
