TRS MPs to boycott Lok Sabha debate on triple talaq
Hyderabad: The TRS Parliamentary Party which met under the chairmanship of TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday, is said to have decided to abstain from the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the triple talaq Bill.
The BJP government has decided to introduce the triple talaq bill in the Parliament session scheduled from June 17. When the BJP introduced the triple talaq bill in December 2018, the TRS had abstained from voting on the bill.
The meeting discussed the strategy to be adopted during the ensuing Parliament session. It unanimously elected senior MP Dr K. Kesava Rao as TRS Parliamentary Party leader and and Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao as the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.
Mr Kesava Rao will also head the party in the Upper House.
It was also decided at the meeting to appoint Mr B.B. Patil as Whip and Mr K. Prabhakar Reddy as Deputy Floor Leader in the Lok Sabha. Mr Banda Prakash Mudiraj will be deputy floor leader in the Rajya Sabha and Mr J. Santosh Kumar, party whip.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is said to have asked MPs to continue their effort to secure resolution of issues and implementation of promises made following bifurcation of the state which are pending with the Centre.
Sources in the TRS said that the bifurcation promises with regard to setting up a steel plant at Bayyaram, railway coach factory at Kazipet and tribal university for the state are pending with the Centre for five years.
