Karnataka: Maths paper prepared by outsiders
Bengaluru: Who prepared this year's II PUC final examination mathematics question paper? The PU Department claims that all question papers were prepared by expert lecturers, who were handpicked by them. However, an 11-page report, prepared by the State Treasury Department refutes the claim. It stated that based on circumstantial evidence, the paper was leaked in Hanagal sub-treasury and the person behind the leak and an officer in the PU Department had jointly prepared the Mathematics question paper.
More than 1.20 lakh students appeared for the II PUC final examination. The inquiry report recommended a CID investigation into the matter.
Students upset: The agitated students are demanding that the state government should make the CID investigation report as well as the Treasury Departmental inquiry report, public. "If the findings of these shocking reports are true, then the matter must be brought to the knowledge of the public. How can they (PU Department) allow corrupt officials and anti-social elements to prepare question papers? Who is responsible for this?" said Ms. Anitha Shetty, a II PUC student.
"From the very first day, we (students and parents) knew that every question paper was leaked by a few officials and some anti-social elements, who are part of this racket. This inquiry report has now confirmed our suspicions,” she added.
When we contacted Ramegowda, the Director of the State Pre-University Department, he rejected all the allegations . "Even though the question papers were prepared when I was not in the department, I can confirm that no such incident ever happened. All the question papers were prepared and set by experts and there is absolutely no truth in these allegations,” he said.
Highlights
- The State PU Department conducted the II PUC final mathematics examination on March 14.
- Students alleged that the questions carrying 21 marks were not in the syllabus. Following this complaint, the PU board directed the evaluators to follow a soft valuation process for these questions, and to award grace marks to all students who had attempted those questions.
- Now it is being said that this question paper was not one of the six original question papers prepared by the department for the final examination. It was the seventh question paper prepared by department officials, which was ‘illegal’ as per the rule book.
- To add to the woes of the PU department, a departmental inquiry conducted by the treasury department has unearthed some startling findings. According to the departmental inquiry report, the persons behind the question paper leak in Hanagal, was a sub-treasury and an officer from the PU department, who both prepared the Mathematics question paper.
- The PU board director Mr. Ramegowda denies all the allegations vehemently.
