Bagalakote: Woman in HY Meti CD attempts suicide

Vijayalaxmi was rushed to the district hospital soon after the incident. The doctors said that she had consumed 10-15 sleeping pills.

Hubballi: Three months after the CID gave a clean chit to former excise minister H.Y. Meti in the alleged sex scandal case, the woman Vijayalaxmi Sarur, involved in the episode, tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills at Bagalkote on Sunday.

She was rushed to the district hospital soon after the incident. The doctors said that she had consumed 10-15 sleeping pills. They clarified that she is out of danger and will take 2-3 days to recover.

Vijayalaxmi, addressing the media, alleged that she tried to end her life as she got threats on her life from the supporters of Mr Meti a fortnight ago. But she refused to reveal the names of the people who threatened her and said she will disclose all details at an appropriate time.

She had resurfaced before the media last month and threatened to make public all corruption scandals of Ayush Hospital in Bagalkot, where she was working, if the officials failed to reappoint her in her post. She had said that she has records of irregularities in the department.

The woman, who had visited the hospital last month, had complained that District Medical Officer Dr Maheshwar Guggari has looted lakhs of rupees by creating false bills. She was working as an attender on contract basis at the hospital and had gone absconding for the last eight months after the sex scandal broke out. She was suspended from service as she had taken unofficial leave. Now, she claims that she had remained absent due to health grounds and family dispute.

Mr Meti found himself in the sex CD with the woman Vijayalaxmi who had alleged that the former minister had sought sexual favours from her, in return for her transfer or regularisation of her post. The Congress leader had to step down from his ministerial post soon after video footage went viral.

Later, the woman had backtracked from her statement and lodged complaint against four people, including former gunman of Meti for allegedly threatening her to give statement against the senior Congress leader.
