Visvesvaraya Technological University announces new exit scheme to help students

All students studying the 2010 syllabi, who had backlogs, would be able to move to the next semester hassle-free under it.

Belagavi: Rocked by agitations by students protesting against its policies, the Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to introduce an innovative scheme to help them complete their courses even with backlogs of examinations they have not cleared.

Announcing the new “exit scheme,” that could benefit over 20,000 students from engineering colleges affiliated to VTU, Vice Chancellor, Dr Karisiddappa explained to reporters here on Wednesday that all students studying the 2010 syllabi, who had backlogs, would be able to move to the next semester hassle-free under it.

“While students will be able to enter the next semester despite their backlogs , they will not be eligible to write the examinations of the higher semesters until they clear the gate subjects. What this means is that no student will be allowed to write the examinations of the fifth to eigth semester until he or she clears the backlog,” he added.

While the new system will help engineering students complete their courses whether or not they have any backlog, they will be awarded their degrees only after they clear it, going by the V-C .
