Hyderabad: Free parking becomes free for all
Hyderabad: Irresponsible parking of vehicles by motorists is defeating the very purpose of free road-side parking.
“The indiscipline of some motorists is turning free parking lots into places which create traffic jams. Some motorists park their vehicle in the second line behind parked vehicles. Because there is no one to regulate the parking, the motorist in the first line has no choice but to wait till the second line motorist takes the vehicle,” said Mr N. Murali Vishwanathan, whose car was stuck at Kamat Hotel on SD Road.
This is not an isolated incident as there is no regulation of free parking lots. “We are not saying that free parking lots should be removed but there should some regulation. Bikers park their two-wheelers between two cars. Sometimes there are scratches on the,” said a motorist, V. Yashaswi.
DCP traffic-II A.V. Ranganath said there was a proposal to ask managements to deploy “parking managers” at free parking lots. “A notification has to be issued by police commissioner in this regard after consulting the managements of commercial establishments,” he said.
Greater Hyderabad Traders and Cloth Merchants Association president Ammanabolu Prakash said not all traders would be willing to pay for parking managers.
