West Godavari witnesses tourism campaign
Eluru: As many as 100 tourist centres will be developed from Polavaram to Narasapuram in West Godavari for the benefit of people before Sankranti.
West Godavari collector K. Bhaskar chairing a district-level tourism development committee meeting held here on Friday directed the officials to identify 100 places which are viable to be developed as tourism centres.
He said that a large number of people were expected to arrive to their home villages to spend the festive days with their family members, relatives and friends. He laid stress to construct resorts and develop tourist amenities at the 100 centres.
Mr Bhaskar said that in case the place identified for developing a tourist centre was found in government land, works could be taken up under public-private-partnership mode and in case the land was found in private place, it could be purchased and developed.
The district collector directed the SETWEL (Society of Employment and Training in West Godavari at Eluru) chief executive officer Subbi Reddy to take more interest to identify the places and execute works in an expeditious manner.
Later, Mr Bhaskar reviewed execution of several tourism projects which got administrative sanction for 2016-17 at a cost of Rs 14.45 crore and enquired about the delay in works at Dongaravipalem, Valandhararevu of Narasapuram mandal and Pedamallam of Achanta mandal, which were supposed to be completed by July 30.
Referring to the works related to development of Sidhantham Ghat at a cost of Rs 6.7 crore and also at Kovvur worth Rs 7.75 crore sanctioned for 2017-18, the district collector directed officials to expedite their execution.
With regard to the proposed development of guesthouses belonging to panchayat-raj, R&B and irrigation departments to promote tourism.

In case the place identified for developing a tourist centre was found in government land, works could be taken up under public-private-partnership mode. Resorts and tourist amenities to come up in these lands.
In case the land found is private, it would be purchased and developed. The district collector has directed SETWEL to take an interest in identifying the places and execute works in an expeditious manner to help tourism.
