Historic 125-foot Ambedkar statue rises in Vijayawada
Vijaywada: Dr BR Ambedkar statue committee chairman and minister for social welfare Dr Merugu Nargarjuna, deputy chief minister Kottu Satyanarayana, Andhra Pradesh Christian JAC chairman Dr Elamanchili Praveen visited the premises and supervised the ongoing construction work of 125 foot Dr Ambedkar statue and Smriti Vanam on Friday in Vijayawada.
On the occasion, Nagarjuna said that the construction of a 125 foot statue of Ambedkar on an 80 foot pedestal like nowhere else in India is a history in the country, despite the past governments promising to construct it in a nook and corner of Amaravati and finally ignored it. He pointed out that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has given top priority for the construction of the Ambedkar statue in the centre of Vijayawada city in hundreds of crores worth of land. The minister claimed that this is a true tribute to Ambedkar and further to make this place into a tourist spot by erecting fountains, stalls, laser lightings and many more.
