Hyderabad: With several sanitation staffers, especially GHMC sanitary field assistants (SFAs) and public health care workers (PHWs) being appointed booth-level officers (BLOs), sanitation activities have taken a backseat in several parts of the city.
Some of the locations where door-to-door lifting of garbage is not being done efficiently and places where garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) are left uncleared for days together are the stretch connecting Road No. 5 and Gayatri Hills via Venkatagiri in Jubilee Hills and Chaknawadi in Goshamahal.
The road heading towards Preston Ivy, a housing society located in Guttala Begumpet, Jubilee Hills, and the road heading towards Basheerbagh from Ramkote, opposite a restaurant, are also locations where sanitation activities have been adversely affected.
According to D. Keshav from Gayatri Hills, for three days now the area around HMWS&SB water tank in Jubilee Hills has not been cleaned and garbage lies scattered all around.
Around 6,500 metric tonnes of garbage are generated every day in GHMC limits and about 18,000 sanitation staff in sweeping and other sanitation activities are monitored by SFAs.
The municipal services that have been partially affected include fogging, anti-larval operations, issuing birth and death certificates and road restoration works.
