Kozhikode: Crime Branch for more probe

The CB report said that the investigation of local police was improper and a detailed one was essential.

KOZHIKODE: The Crime Branch (Hurt and Homicide Wing) has submitted a report to the police headquarters suggesting a detailed investigation supported by a scientific expert team into the suspicious death of a nun in a convent here.

DC had reported on September 21 about the ongoing re-probe into the death of Sr Jyothis (22) of Sacred Heart Convent in Kallurutty whose body was found in its well of on November 20, 1998.

The probe was initiated earlier based on a complaint by Catholic Laymen's Association (CLA), a reformist initiative, to DGP Lokanath Behera. The CB report said that the investigation of local police was improper and a detailed one was essential.

The complainant, CLA secretary M.L. George said the findings substantiated its position that the death was suspicious and the investigation was forcibly wound up midway.

"Though there was an injury in her vagina as per the postmortem report, the case was hushed up by the local police," he told DC.

"I am ready to submit whatever pieces of evidence I have."

Crime Branch team headed by a circle inspector had gathered information from him. The probe team also visited the house of the nun at Vayalada and gathered information from kith and kin the other day.
