BJP wants India to represent 1 religion: Asaduddin Owaisi
Hyderabad: At an election meeting in Shaheennagar in Jalpally Municipality, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that the BJP wants India to represent a particular religion, even though after getting Independence, we adopted a Constitution which did not choose any one religion for the country, but respected all faiths and gave citizens the liberty to even choose to have no religion.
Owaisi said that the conspiracy to grab citizenship from Muslims was actually hatched in 1930. The second sarsanchalak of the RSS, M.S. Golwalker, had written in his book that Muslims have to live in India without citizenship. Mr Modi is implementing this in 2020, he said.
India is a country where people of different faith live, thousands of cultures exist and people speak numerous languages. Unity in diversity is the beauty of our country and the BJP wants to destroy it, Mr Owaisi said. The Modi government has carried out amendments to the Citizenship Act and claims that this confers citizenship and does not seize citizenship from any Indian, which is not true. This Act can confer citizenship and seize it as well.
He said in Assam when the National Register of Citizens exercise was completed under the supervision of the Supreme Court, about 20 lakh citizens could not find their names in the Register, and among them only five lakh are Muslim, another 5.4 lakh are Bengali speaking Hindus and the remaining are Gurkhas and other communities.
He said that the finance minister of Assam, Hemanta Biswa Sarma, said that the Modi government introduced the CAA under which Bengali speaking Hindus will be given citizenship of India. He does not say that those five lakh Muslims who speak Bengali will get citizenship as well. This is a clear violation of Article 14 of our Constitution, Mr Owaisi pointed out.
