Visakhapatnam: Youth sell swords on highway
Visakhapatnam: Youngsters from the Sikh community are selling weapons cheap along the National Highway-16 stretch here. The sale of such sharp swords is illegal, but the cops ignores them. The razor-sharp swords are available for just Rs 100. Motorists, particularly women, travelling on the NH-16, are worried over the display of swords.
Mr K. Manoj Kumar, a motorist, asked the youngsters why they were selling the dangerous weapons on the road. He pointed out to them that wayward persons and even dacoits can use the weapons to loot passengers.
He said that the sellers told him that truckers travelling long distance and carrying money, needed these weapons for their safety. The sellers also claimed that they sold such weapons in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and they can be used for cutting wood and meat.
Sources said some families are manufacturing the weapons in bulk on the city outskirts in between Gajuwaka and Anakapalle, and are selling these to the motorists on highway.
Vizag rural police chief Rahul Dev Sharma said that selling of such weapons was illegal and his team would take action.
