Suchitwa's troll campaign against single-use plastic

As many as 20 lakh devotees are expected to arrive in the state capital in the wake of the Attukal Festival.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to raise awareness among the devotees and public on the importance of curbing plastic usage, Suchitwa Mission has launched a social media campaign trolling plastic. Interesting troll memes are doing rounds in social media including Facebook and Whatsapp ahead of the Attukal Pongala Festival.

As many as 20 lakh devotees are expected to arrive in the state capital in the wake of the Attukal Festival. "We wanted to do something to draw the attention of the public. Now irrespective of age everybody is active on all social media platforms and these memes would catch their attention. Reaching out to them is more important to make this campaign effective," said Suchitwa Mission Director C V Joy.

The troll campaign focuses on promoting reusable plates and glasses in place of single-use plastic plates, cups. Like previous years, the authorities have enforced green-protocol for Attukal Pongala festival. The authorities are urging the devotees to bring reusable plate and glass from home to curb plastic usage. The pongala ritual will be held on Wednesday.
