Ooty: The movement of a tiger in a tribal village along suburb Theetukal, is keeping the villagers in a state of panic.
Kavakaadumund, a tribal hamlet, along Theetukal in the wooded zone is known for its serenity and landscape beauty. While tribes are predominant in this hamlet, there are other non-tribal residents also.
Farming has been the tradition in this hamlet. The suspected movement of a tiger in the area for the past few days, has triggered panic among the villagers.
A villager, K. Rahul, who had clicked some photographs of the tiger from a distance in the jungle fringes a few days ago, said it appeared to be an aged tiger. It is generally perceived that it had lost its hunting ability and trying to prey on the village livestock.
It is also suspected that this tiger had killed a couple of livestock in the village recently, Rahul said and added that the villagers had taken up the issue with the foresters and urged them to set up a team to track the tiger movement to avoid a man-tiger conflict.
Founder of Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust, N. Sadiq Ali, said this tiger has not harmed any human till now. It is misconceived that this tiger entered the golf course at Ooty a few days ago, as photographs of the tiger linking it with golf course went viral in social media, he pointed out.
