Bengaluru: After the post cards campaign against the proposed elevated corridor project, the citizen groups will be assembling at the Gandhi statue at Maurya Circle on Saturday to register their protest.
The group, which had earlier spearheaded the Steel Flyover Beda movement, wants the government to cancel the tender process and instead take measures to boost public transport.
Leo Saldanha representing Environment Support Group (ESG) questioned how can the elevated corridor with a huge cost of Rs 28,000 crore be a legitimate project without consultation with the high-powered committee and the public? Theatre personality Prakash Belawadi said, "From former prime minister Deve Gowda to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to KPCC President Dinesh Gundurao to former chief minister Siddaramaiah, everyone had decried the project in the past. They should stay true to their conscience and withdraw this anti-people project. Join us on Saturday to convey our opinion to the decision makers."
Srikanth Narasimhan, General Secretary, Bengaluru Apartment Federation (BAF) said, "Run suburban trains on the wasted railway lines, fast track the Metro project and ensure enough buses are run - we are sure that there is absolutely no need for the elevated corridor. We are the Beku brigade asking for train, bus and Metro."
Noter architect Naresh Narasimhan said, "There are two ways to destroy a city, as the Mayor of Bogota famously said - one is using a nuclear bomb and the other is elevated roads."
He felt the project will destroy the culture and character of our city. "I am willing to pro bono provide the best urban plan and design for the eight cities around Bengaluru - Sarjapura, Tumakuru, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Neelamangala etc., we need to decentralise, decongest and demotorise to save Bengaluru," Narasimhan added.
