Hyderabad: Consumers fume as road digging hits BSNL internet
Hyderabad: People are complaining of disrupted BSNL internet connection at Gachibowli.
Services at the Indian School of Business and nearby My Home Vihanga, a complex that houses nearly 2,000 apartments have been poor due to alleged digging work, they said.
Indian School of Business at ISB Road has BSNL and RailTel as internet service providers and spokesperson Sundeep Jammalamadaka confir-med that BSNL services were disrupted several times last week.
He said, “The connection went off three to four times last week, lasting up to half an hour each time.”
Manjeet Singh of My Home Vihanga at Q City Road said this has been a recurring problem for the past year.
He said he has even approached the Depart-ment of Telecommunication in New Delhi through twitter. “I have been living in the area for more than five years but the problem started a year ago. The internet connection goes off every month.”
Mr Singh, manager in a firm in the financial district, added, “We were promised better service six months ago but it hasn’t happened. This is a highly planned city and there is constant digging work going on for construction or the laying of a new pipeline. The digging cuts the internet line at least once every month and then BSNL takes at least three to four days to repair it.”
“I escalated the matter to the Department of Telecommunications through twitter.”
General Manager (Rural) at BSNL, C. Ramachandran said, “We use the Resilient Packet Ring technology in the area, so the problem should not occur. Maybe it is a localised issue caused by something else. But I will definitely look into the problem.”
Resilient Packet Ring technology is a protocol standard designed for the optimised transport of data traffic over optical fibre ring networks.
CA Technologies and Microsoft India, who are also located on the same road, were contacted but they could not confirm if they face this problem.
