Hyderabad: Trio helps nab snatchers

Duo, riding loud bike, locks itself in dead-end.

Hyderabad: Three persons from the city helped the police nab two minor chain-snatchers at Tarnaka late on Wednesday night. The three Good Samaritans, Dheeraj Kumar, 25, Srikanth 26, and V. Pramod 25, residents of Ramanthapur, were felicitated by Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar on Thursday.

According to the police, the Nallakunta police received a complaint regarding a chain snatching at about 11.30 pm. Mobile parties were alerted and police began checking vehicles on the road.

Subsequently, an incident of a mobile being snatched was reported in Tarnaka. The snatchers were reported to have escaped towards Lalaguda police limits.
The snatchers were using a motorcycle with the silencer removed. The loud sound helped track it down, said a police officer.

Lalaguda policeman Pratap and Home Guard K. Vishnu, who constituted Patrol 1, heard the speeding bike and tried to stop the duo. The snatchers entered the bylanes and were chased by the police and the Good Samaritans before they were cornered at a dead-end.

When police questioned them, the duo turned out to be minors. They confessed to the snatching, apart from another instance of bag snatching at Malkajgiri and other thefts. They were sent to judicial custody.

Mr Anjani Kumar, speaking at the felicitation of the three Good Samaritans, said, “The only difference between the cops and civilians is the dress. Citizens should come forward to help the police.”
