Telangana braces for heavy rains, residents fear sewerage issues and waterlogging

Hyderabad: After the Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad (IMD-H) predicted that Telangana would likely receive moderate to heavy rains, people have begun to worry about overflowing drains, sewerage issues and waterlogging in the city.

B. Srinivas, a commuter who travels to and from the IT corridor, said that the area, beginning from Jubilee Hills up till Madhapur, Hitec City, Raidurg, Gachibowli, etc., had the worst sewage system. "Even the tiniest rains leave the residential areas here flooded. It causes hour-long traffic jams and accidents,” he said.

Amin Moria, a resident of Zamistanpur, said that badly built roads, unfinished pipe works and dangerous gradients make life horrible when it rained in the area. "We have spoken to the concerned authorities last year who assured us better sewage system but they dug up some places. Drains area are always overflowing, rain or not.”

Meanwhile, the water board assured timely inspections and quick redressals. Srinarayana Poona J, DGM(E) SD-I, Madhapur, HMWS&SB, told DC that preventive action had begun and the bord was clearing nalas and rains

At a review meeting held on Tuesday, HMWS&SB managing director Dana Kishore directed officials to ensure water leakages and sewage overflows must be resolved from time to time.
