OOTY: As the summer tourist season has set in and tourist influx has begun to show steep increase over the past week, the district police administration has made arrangements for free flow of traffic and parking. The Ooty-Coimbatore road has been made a one-way traffic affair from April 15 to the end of May.
Stating this, Ms. T. Shanmughapriya, the SP of Nilgiris, said that this year, the one-way traffic arrangement has been made a round-the-clock affair till May 31 to help tourists and locals to have a glitch free ride on the Ooty-Coimbatore lane. She said that according to the new traffic plans for the summer, all ascending vehicles from Mettupalayam will be allowed to ply via Burliar and Coonoor road to reach Ooty. All descending vehicles from Ooty as well as Coonoor need to take the Kotagiri-Mettupalayam road to reach Coimbatore. On no account will vehicles be allowed to ply on this road against the summer traffic norms, she asserted.
Trucks bound for Ooty and Coonoor from Mettupalayam will not be allowed to ply via Kotagiri and Burliar roads between 6 am and 9 pm till the end of May, she added.
Meanwhile. a communique from the DSP in Ooty stated that in Ooty town limits, there will be restrictions on parking. Heavy vehicles will not be permitted to ply in the arterial roads in the town between 8 am and 11 am and also between 2 am and 8.30 pm. There will be restrictions on parking on Commercial Road, Main Bazaar, Lower Bazaar, Market road and bus stand road areas. Outstation vehicles should be parked in the parking lots allotted for them, it stated.
