Now, KT Rama Rao road in Secunderabad Cantonment Board
Hyderabad: A third road was named after minister K.T. Rama Rao, this time along with defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman because it is located in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board jurisdiction.
A group of citizens of Ward 5 filled six potholes on the East Marredpally road and renamed it KTR-Nirmala Sitharaman Road to goad officials into action.
Residents carried out shramdan on Monday morning; a group of youth purchased mud and concrete for Rs 4,000 and filled the potholes.
Mr Adith Kamal, a resident of Gandhinagar, said, ‘The 200-metre road leading to AOC Centre has been damaged for over a year now, there are dangerous ditches especially opposite the East Marredpally petrol bunk.”
He said after the SCB ignored repeated complaints, the residents filled six potholes and put up boards christening it KTR-Nirmala Sitharaman road.
The SCB removed the boards four hours later. The mid and concrete was found washed out.
SCB vice-president J. Rama Krishna, who represents Ward 5 from the TRS, said the board was waiting for Rs 20 crore funds. “Once it is received the board will carry out recarpeting of roads and filling of potholes in SCB.”
Marredpally residents had first carried out road repairs on a 80-metre stretch beside St John’s Junior College and called it KTR-Ivanka road. The GHMC immediately repaired the road. Then, some techies repaired a stretch of the KPHB-Hafeezpet and called it KTR-IT Park road. The GHMC did not respond.
Kukatpally resident Anisha Mishra said, “Despite shaming the GHMC by using the minister’s name, the corporation does not seem to move. In two weeks the monsoons will begin. Do we have to keep doing the same work.
