Monsoon to cover entire AP by June 20, says IMD
Visakhapatnam: The Southwest Monsoon is likely to cover entire Andhra Pradesh by June 20. It would spread over the entire Rayalaseema by June 18 and the rest of the state in the next two days, the weatherman stated on Wednesday.
The monsoon continued to pass through Ratnagiri, Koppal, Puttaparthi and Shriharikota.
Conditions were becoming favourable for further advancement over more parts of south peninsular and east India and adjoining areas between June 18 and 21, IMD said.
A lower tropospheric westerly winds prevailed over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. “The heatwaves are likely to subside with the monsoon covering more areas of AP by June 18,’’ IMD, Amaravat, director S. Stella said.
She said that until then, severe heatwaves are likely at isolated pockets over north coastal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places in these areas. Strong winds of speed 30-40 kmph are likely in isolated places over the affected areas of the state.
The situation would remain the same till June 17, Stella said and advised people not to get directly exposed to the sun.
A report from the state disaster management authority said the heat wave would be intense in 250 mandals in the next two days.
The report said Madugula in Anakapalli district recorded 45.3 degrees C in Wednesday, Bobbili in Vizianagaram district 44.9 degrees, Saluru in Parvathipuram Manyam district 44.5, Dhavaleswaram in East Godavari, Polavaram in Eluru district and Kotananduru in Kakinada district 44.1 degrees each.
