Nominated members meet Puducherry assembly secretary
Puducherry: The three nominated members of Puducherry Assembly met Assembly Secretary A. Vincent Rayar once again at his office here and presented a memorandum seeking allocation of seats for them in the House.
The legislators entered into an argument with Mr Rayar alleging the assembly secretary is functioning as Congress agent.
"The government servant should function as a government officer instead of a Congress agent. How he could collect a representation from S. Saminathan claiming that he was appointed as the nominated member while V. Saminathan was appointed as the nominated member.", said the BJP leaders.
BJP Puducherry unit president, V. Saminathan, KG Shankar, unit treasurer and educationist S. Selvaganapathy, who were appointed as nominated members of the Assembly by the Home Ministry, were sworn-in by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi at Raj Nivas on July 4. Bedi had administered the oath of office hurriedly to them at the Raj Nivas at a secret function without informing Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues and speaker.
Later speaker V. Vaithilingam returned the files pertaining to their nomination sent to him by the Lt Governor and denied them any facility in the house saying that he do not have any intimation on the nomination of the three members and thus swearing in by the Lt Governor is not valid.
