People happy: Harangi, Hemavathy, KRS, Kabini dams brimming!
Mysuru: Copious rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area has ensured that all the dams in the basin continue to receive heavy inflows. After four years, the KRS and Hemavathi dams in the basin a]re close to the capacity mark, while two other reservoirs at Kabini and Harangi too have already reached the full reservoir level (FRL). There is a heavy controlled discharge of water from all the reservoirs in the basin into the rivers.
KRS released 20,000 cusecs of water into the river at 1.20 pm on Saturday for the first time this year. Kabini too released 48,375 cusecs on Saturday, which will reach KRS. Hemavathi reservoir released 14,000 cusecs and Harangi reservoir released 18,784 cusecs on Saturday.
Fire and Emergency services and a team of National Disaster Response Force have positioned themselves at different places along the Cauvery and Kapila. Flood alert has been issued to the people on the banks of the two rivers, and those living in low-lying aras have been asked to move to safer places, said sources from the Department of Disaster Management.
Water level at KRS touched 123.65 ft as against its capacity 124.80 ft. It recieved 43672 cusecs and released 31926 cusecs on Saturday evening. The water level at the dam at the same time last year was 78.45 feet. With good rains in the Wayanad region, Kabini received 43,400 cusecs and the water level at the reservoir on Saturday stood at 2281.46 feet. The level at Harangi reservoir stood at 2856.67 feet on Saturday.
