Save water awareness rally in Thanjavur town

As students are future citizens they should know the importance and spread the message to people at large.

THANJAVUR: A ‘Jal Shakthi Abhiyan’ awareness rally and two campaign ‘raths (vehicles)’ were flagged off from old bus stand here on Sunday.

Pramod Kumar Pathak, additional secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, flagged off the rally and the ‘raths’.

He said that water scarcity is looming large over the country and unless water is saved and water resources conserved, people may face severe problems in future.

As students are future citizens they should know the importance and spread the message to people at large.

Thanjavur district has taken up various measures to save water, he noted.

Jal Shakthi Abhiyan lays stress on five aspects-water conservation and rain water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation. With Jal Shakthi Abhiyan campaign, Thanjavur district may become the first in the country in water conservation, Pathak expressed the hope.

Mr. A. Annadurai, Thanjavur district collector, Maheswaran, SP, Thanjavur district and Mantrachalam, project director, DRDA, Janaki Raveendran, commissioner, Thanjavur city corporation, participated in the rally.

Hundreds of students and members of women self help groups and voluntary organisations took part in the rally which went via south alankam, south main street, west main street and ended at Rajah’s school.
