SC Collegium recommends appointment of two advocates as HC judges

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud has recommended the names two advocates, Laxminarayana Alishetty and Anil Kumar Jukanti, and judicial officer Sujana Kalasikam for appointment as judges of the Telangana High Court.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the SC Collegium had forwarded the proposal to the Centre to get the President’s approval.

This followed the Telangana High Court Chief Justice proposing the names of five advocates and two judicial officers on December 22, 2022, for appointment as judges of the High Court.

Laxminarayana Alishetty has 26 years at the Bar and has specialised in writ litigation, arbitration and civil and commercial litigation. The SC Collegium considered that his appointment would add to the representation of the OBC category in the High Court.

Anil Kumar Jukanti, standing counsel for the TS Legal Services Authority, has put in more than 20 years of practice at the Bar. He has appeared in matters relating to taxation, civil and criminal law, service law and constitutional cases with specialisation in taxation. He is presently.

K. Sujana, selected from the judicial officers quota, is Registrar General of the Telangana High Court.
