Police team to return after quizzing Jalandhar Bishop
Kottayam: The team investigating rape allegations against Jalandhar bishop Fran-co Mulakkal is returning after reportedly questioning him for eight hours.
According to the sources, they were asked to reach New Delhi on Tuesday.
The team questioned the prelate at the Jalandhar Bishops House on Monday night and early Tuesday morning and took his mobile phone and other pieces of digital evidence.
Though there were speculations about his arrest, the investigators were asked to return by superiors. Sources said the arrest would be only after collecting more evidence.
The six-member team went to New Delhi on August 3 for taking statements of others including Ujjain bishop Sebastian Vadakkeyil.
Their attempt to meet the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican to India, Giambattista Diquattro, failed. The nun had told the police that she had given a complaint to the Nuncio in January.
Formerly the mother-general of the congregation, she says the bishop first abused her in May 2014 at Kuravilangadu and raped her 13 times over the next two years.
