Kurnool: Locals staying along the Srisailam Outer Ring Road are a tensed lot with a leopard being frequently spotted in the area, particularly near the Shivaji Sphurthi Kendram abutting the ORR.
The leopard had also been spotted in the vicinity of Sphurthi Kendram on Monday night. A video of its movement captured by devotees has gone viral on social media.
Forest officials immediately rushed to the scene and took measures for ensuring the safety of locals. They say despite the presence of several leopards in the area, there is no immediate threat to devotees, as the wild animals are remaining within the forest zone.
A bear too had been sighted near the Srisailam Temple last Sunday, caused panic among devotees.
Srisailam forest section officer V. Narasimhulu said there is no reason for panic. However, he advised devotees and local population to avoid venturing deep into the forest.
